The presentation is a kind of platform similar to an atlas, which addresses the reciprocal influences between Euro- and Sinocentrizm and their behavior to each other. These two shifting centers/peripheries are considered, deconstructed, analyzed, and thereby new or previously forgotten observations and insights of both sides are shown in a different light. They're mutual cultural, economic and political exchange and influence show the dichotomy of these centers/peripheries.
A series of historically and artistically significant works are presented side by side.
Copies, reproductions, video material, photocopies and artifacts appear next to originals – there is no hierarchy: all works have the same value and the same importance, which is to elucidate the narrative and tie it together.
The form of presentation is called METAXYUM, which is derived from the Ancient Greek word for ‘between’. The title of the presentation – ‘Between periphery and centre’ – indicates what this METAXYUM encompasses in its volume, complexity and multiplicity of levels. This refers to the constantly shifting positions of centre and periphery, and is at the same time concerned with the space and time that exist between these two poles.
